So here's my target from yesterday. The 5 shots at the top were shot with the target upside down and were from 25m filing the front sight down to try and lift poi. The 3 low of the diamond were shot at 50m with no adjustment to the sight. There is one right at the bottom left that is the result of my arm slipping off the back of the ute. The load was 90gn volume of 2f, .010 cotton patch roughly and inch square spit lubed, and a .495 hand cast round ball. I primed the pan with 2f too coz that's all I've got. Just need to file that sight down a smidgeon more and I'm set

so what range are you adjusting the sights for a zero at? What sort of trajectory does it have and what sort of shooting do you have in mind for it. In other words why are you choosing the range you are for a zero? Just asking to learn something

50 yards is a common zero for off-hand muzzle loaders. I'd also wear glasses if you want to keep hot burning stuff out of your eyes.

I've no place shooting beyond 50m with it and it will be primarily for hunting.

Depends on which end of the equation you are standing, like I said, I'd hate be hit with it.

The North American Bison was nearly wiped out by rifles shooting lead bullets at those velocities.

I dropped a scrub bull @ 100yards a couple of weeks ago that was well over a ton with my .40-70 Straight Sharps shooting a 440grain bullet at 1250 f/s.

Dropped him like the proverbial bag of sh!t.

How heavy is the ball you are shooting?

180gn. So really nothing like the 45/70 round. Its comparable to a 44 magnum roughly but loses a lot of energy quickly due to being, well,a ball. Still,at the end of the day,a half inch hole in the chest is nothing to be sneezed at. But I've found that 69 cal drops things a lot better than 50 cal

Like your post says, Fun! Have at it mate.
I've not long ago got myself a Pedersoli "Gibbs" .45 cal long range muzzle loading rifle. Had a bit of a play with it @ 300m, but too busy with other stuff to get serious with it, yet! .
It shoots a 535gr grease groove bullet on top of 90 to 100gr of 2F. :o

Damn straight ! And let's face it,if you go by most ballistic charts,an arrow wouldn't be able to kill anything ! Lol,there's probably close to a couple of thousand critters I've shot with one that can't argue about that anymore
