I think it must be No1Mk3. The marking are not clear enough for me to make out, but having seen others like it I came to the same conclusion. Thank you for commenting, appreciated.

Beautiful. As a young bloke I got chatting with an old Polish gentleman one time when I was out hunting. He told me that he had been shot with a three barrleed muzzle-loading version of one of these when he was a young bloke poaching. It was a very interesting story.

Nice collection Keith.
Is that a bearded tomahawk I see in there?
I've been thinking of getting this full tang work of art from Winkler Knives.
Then when I finally made the decision to go for it I discovered it's US$600!
I might just plagiarize the shape and make it myself.

I'd be very surprised if you couldn't find one made in Aus. Hand crafted knives etc are pretty popular and there is some really talented people in Australia

I have several tomahawks/Trade axes but none are bearded. The thing to remember is that helves break sooner of later, especially if you are throwing them. Accidents happen. With the round or oval tapered eye of the normal tomahawk, a helve/handle is easy to make & fit in the field, axes needing wedges or handles on full tangs are not so easy to replace. Depends on what your expectations are & if you are prepared to wait until you can get back home to fix it. In a wilderness survival situation you will need to fix it there & then.

That's why I like Winklers designs, they are full tang like a good knife, so even if you mistreat it and break off the handle scales you still have a working, albeit uncomfortable, axe until you replace them or wrap it in paracord etc.
The medic axe pictured shows the full tang better.

No, not really Pete. Within 30 paces is okay. I get much better accuracy from my muzzle-loading fusil, but the laws being as they are, I am not allowed to hang it on the wall ready to hand. The shotgun is quicker to load if I see a boar down on the flats.

Thanks Pete, but I don't want to purchase another ball mould. I do have a conical mould somewhere, I might check that out & see what size it is. But the choke is pretty tight on my BP shotgun & I don't think it will take a ball/conical much larger than I am using now.
