Cat H - the firstest of the first world problems

Post by juststarting » 15 Mar 2018, 10:23 pm

Got my probationary Cat H... Fun and unlimitd access to club guns, more fun. I am under 20 minutes from the range and there lies the problem (this is only 'a' first world problem, firstest is coming).

22LR - 60 x 2 = 120 rounds, ye, ok, not bad
9mm - 60 x 3 = 180 rounds, hrrrmmm, getting pricey

Got home today, thought, meh, everything is under conrtols here, I'll go just shoot something new...
38 Spl - 60 rounds, little more pricey

Saturday - kids out, anticipating another 120 rounds.

And here we have the firstest of the first world problems, can't own a gun on probationary licence (few months to go) and can't use my own reloads in club guns. Bah! On a flip side, I get to shoot a lot more now, ohhh yerrr.

I think next week I am going to start getting into IPSC, a little bit more my pace :)

My Advice
use the 6 months to figure out what you wanna shoot and set yourself up Reload wise for it ,, wait do you mean you can never run reloads or just during Probation , if never i would be looking for a new club

Never said never....Most clubs will not allow the use of reloads in club owned pistols, too much of a liability headache. Once he gets his own then I'm sure an investment will be made in the blue sector :)

1. Can't use reloads in club owned handguns. Brett nailed it.

2. Yes, blue sector 650 is currently being looked at, lol

I think for the very first one, I am leaning towards colt 1911 in 22LR. Beyond that I'd like CZ shadow 9mm and 1911 in 45 because it's the right thing to do, lol

If like here in QLD dont forget you can only own 1 RF or one CF for 1st 12 months, so if you get a 22 can use own ammo but then you have to use club 9mm or 38sp ammo for CF.

Dont do the 1911 in .22lr. It is a lot of money for a gun that is just a plinke and you wont be competitive.

get your self a ruger 22/45, has the same grip angle as a 1911 and a lot more accurate.

Wylie27, yep. I'm actually considering abandoning handguns in 22LR entirely. Probably end up with one (or more than one) eventually... But start with something I can use for IPSC and go from there.

Re regulations: 1 CF or RF + 1 air + 1 BP on first six months or something like that. After that, whatever.

I've been shooting 75 SP01. Shadow is next. I find the grip is a bit wide for my hand on 75, but I like it overall. I'll try Shadow and see if there are different grips that I can buy... Or just get used to them.

What Wylie27 said, WOFTAM on the 22cal 1911. Get yourself some centre fires to begin with but then get yourself a decent 22 cause some of the best fun I have is smashing chickens in rimfire silhouette comps with Wylie27 :)

Now, is smashing chickens referring to an actual shooting competition or you and Wylie engaging in some sort of, well, you know, bonding?

If Brett's 'chiken' that you're smashing has a red dot, I strongly recommend you both see a doctor :)

We both attend "Recoil Therapy" at least 3-4 sessions a month, that's the only medicine we need :)

I replaced the grips on my SP01 Shadow 1 with a thinner set by GZ as my Mrs also shoots this gun. Made a big difference for her, & the extra grip helped me.

I got mine from CZ Customs (http://www.czcustom.com.au/handgun-3/grips-1?page=2). I picked the Diamond aggressive knowing I could adjust the aggressiveness by sanding the points down to suit.
