hi guys, thought i would share a picture of my new toy Tikka T3 s/s Super Varmint 223 1:8 twist. picked it up yesterday morning, should have been last week but weapons licensing screwed up my pta. Now have to wait till after easter to shoot it,bummer
WOW NG ! glad i backed your rifle choice. nice bit of gear. you'll have to post some groups after you get it sorted. what's the scope ? hmmmm, i think they make them in 6.5x55 . can my bank account take it ?
the scope is a vortex viper model : HST 4-16-44 VHS 4309,warne maxima rings i just bought myself and fitted, had crap pro-tactical scope rings. it will do to start with ,will upgrade if i need to . Not real sure how much it is ,about $800.00 or so from what i can find online about it. It came with the gun when i bought it.
get the best scope you can afford i reckon. i fit leupold vx 2's and 3's on most of my rifles. you may need a scope with more magnification if ya gunna get serious about range shooting. ya might have to buy another gun to put the vortex on but....
may have to wait a bit ,till i get more cash but. got a great deal on the tikka package but will take a bit to recover now. Made a promise to the wife if i got a new gun, she gets a new gun. Happy wife ,happy life or some crap like that
this post is called "my new baby", so here goes .well fellas, i bit the bullet and bought my first brand spankers new rifle everything else i own has been qaulity second hand stuff ( suppose that depends on your view of qaulity ) thought about buying another old krico 22lr and modifying/restoring it, then thought about how good and accurate my old hw60j weihrauch 22 mag was. a LOT of similarities/ design features between these german guns. did some research and found the new hw66 comes with a heavier barrel and reviewers have shot some really awesome groups . .45 at 50 and .75 at 100 with premium ammo. gunna run this in at ripley on the weekend if the weather allows. will post some groups ounce it's sorted gunna go have a few beers and drool on it now
havent shot the gun as yet, will be going to ripley tomorrow morning or saturday morning to shoot it for the first time. if its not raining. been chompin at the bit to shoot it,can't wait
hey bigrich , i am going to ripley range friday morning at opening time 9.00 am. I will have a orange remington hat on, also look for my tikka if you are coming bigrich, would be good to meet someone from the forum. have someone to shoot with also, wife is working i will be out there till midday or more probably
had trouble getting scope set, only had bipod no rear bag or anything.and bloody rusty as hell...lol Yeh i left at 10.45 am ,was there at 8.00am . run out of ammo so had to leave.
only kind of decent group i had ...bit unsteady with a bipod only, need more practice....lol 4 shot group at 100m,was on a small circle target but still not great
patience and practice mate . one of the reasons 22lr is a good thing. lots of practice to develope technique for not a lot of dollars on ammo, factory ammo choice is a big variable. been sorting my old krico 22 hornet. hornady ammo shoots 50 to 70 percent better than other brands. norma ammo in my 22-250 and 6.5x55 shoots awesome. try to find a box of premium european tikka, norma or american hornady and see how it shoots. winchester and remington ammo doesn't work for me. federal ammo is pretty consistant. what brand of ammo were you shooting mate ?
