reloading 9mm for cz shadow sp01

Post by newgunner » 11 Oct 2015, 10:21 pm

hi guys/girls,
anyone have any good loads for a cz shadow 9mm to start me off.
i use ADI ap50n powder
xrp projectiles -conical 125 grains
federal or starline brass once fired or new at present time
i have tried a OAl of 1.10-1.13 with 3.2 grains of powder
seems to work ok,but the bullets seem to go to the left of center at 10 m

any input would be helpful to get me going in the right direction

thanks

If your consistently to the left then adjust the sights to the right. I've just got back into pistols and doing some load development, I test using a bench and sandbag to eliminate as much of me as possible. A friend just bought the CZ Shadow as well and it's very nice to shoot, good sights and nice trigger.

I know with my Sig X6 that it loves 138gn round nose, ADI AP50 (still got some left), with 3.3gns of powder. Primers haven't made a difference.

I tred 125gn conicals and the gun hated them?

Mate of mine made the point, the more "purchase a projectile has in the barrel, the more accurate you should be."

I'm about to load some 147gn JHP to see how they behave, but, being jhp pills, not overly keen on using these (the cost of jhp compared to lead is enough to keep me using lead). I'm interested in seeing if these make any difference over a simple lead pill.

May next year they say

The new range of APS powders will be phased in from May 2016. Until then, Australian Munitions will produce enough AS30N, AS50N, AP50N and AP70N to ensure that the forecast needs of our Australian reloading customers can be met. In addition to this, we will produce adequate stocks of these powders to allow for a period of around one year where both ranges (APS and AS/AP powders) will be available

As I understand it AP50N and AP70N will both be discontinued and merged with AS50/70 (shotgun) powders and it may even be labeled as APS65.

There is a new production method that will eventually see a combined powder released for each current powder.
I believe AP50 and AS50 will be replaced by APS45.

Load for my CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow Australia;
135gr Hitek coated LRN (currently Susan Island but I have also used old HRBC and have some Black Widow to try).
3.4gr AP50
Federal SPP
Mixed range brass
OAL 1.095

PF 129-130

For a CZ I would use a LRN rather than conical (but shoot what you have already purchased first).
To make PF in IPSC for a 124gr projectile I would add 0.3gr to the above for lead, a little more if it is jacketed or copper washed.

Leave your sights alone till you get a bit more practise in. Going left is standard push for a right handed shooter. You need to correct it but it isn't part of the reloading equation.

Took a while to get AP50 so I now have just over 4.5 kg. Only good for 20,000 rounds :)

Hi, rather than starting a new thread for 9mm CZ Shadow, I thought I would ask my question here since there are some good answers already on the same topic.

I am taking delivery of my first pistol (9mm CZ Shadow 2) soon, and will be getting into reloading. My question initially is; where is the best place to get bulk brass in Australia? I am sorted for lead (locally made Spartan) and will be buying a Dillon square deal for my press (thoughts). As far as powder and recipe I will just research this forum and trial as many recipes as possible.

Any hints, tips for sourcing, reloading etc greatly appreciated. Thank you

Bulk brass is easy - http://www.australianoncefired.net/ Talk to Wayne, he's a good guy and I buy in bulk from him. Forget the Dillon Square deal and save up a few dollars more for the Dillon XL650, with the case feeder, roller handle, bullet tray and strong mount. The full setup ready to punch loaded rounds out will set you back around $1400 but it'll last you a lifetime and Dillon set the benchmark for progressive reloading presses. Plenty of good loads mentioned in previous posts, I personally like 3.3gr of AP50 behind a 122gr TopScore LRN.

Handled one other day and certainly has given me something to think about. Curious to try one out see how they shoot.
Kinda feeling left out at comps being only one there with a revolver atm so might be time to get one.

That was shooting the American eagle 115gr "Synthtec" factory ammo. A bit snappy and probably not fantastic accuracy wise but a good start and cheap brass as I bought it at Safari last weekend 25% off.

When I've shot a few more off I'll look at reloading 125-135gr RN top scores

1.168 would be a little long for a Shadow.

A friend had a Shadow 2 (only 50 rounds) at the range today and was having the odd feed problem today with his 135gr SI LRN loaded to 1.160. 10 rounds of the same loaded to 1.095 (mine) fed fine in the S2.

I've loaded 1.1" and they were fine for me but I now keep them at 1.09".

BTW, here's my best efforts with my S2 on the weekend, both from 10m with my reloads of 4.1gr of AP70N with 124gr Frontier copper plated projectiles. Each line is 20mm apart, aiming at the 18mm patches.

I know it's not actually the shot you want but there is something satisfying about seeing the hit dead straight through the number 1 on the target :D
