60g 223rem Bullets reloading

Post by bones-350 » 19 Nov 2019, 9:30 am

Just like to see what others think of the big variation in charge rates between the Berger Load Manual and ADI web Rifle Loads when using
60g Berger bullets and 60g V-max bullets.
Berger Bullets Manual states for their 60g Bullet using
Benchmark
Start 21.0 2802 fps Max 23.6 3078 fps
H4895
Start 22.0 2848 fps Max 24.7 3145 fps
ADI web rifle load data state for 60g V-max bullet using
Benchmark 2
Start 23.0 2913 fps Max 24.6 3086 fps
AR2206H
Start 24.0 2198 fps Max 26.0 3174 fps

Hodgon Benchmark powder and ADI Benchmark 2 powder are identical powders made by ADI just different names.
Hodgon H4895 powder and AR2206H powder are identical powders made by ADI just different names.

Are you sure you have the ADI velocity for AR2206H correct?

The Berger manual is quite conservative. Not having used to 60gr Berger not sure if they are flat base or boat tail design. That probably makes a difference also.

G'day bones-350,
It's called "Lawyers" mate, some data you will see is quite conservative as the publisher has no control over who is using their data nor the type of firearm, components etc. A couple of grains variation in load to get a 100 fps change in velocity is nothing, you can get greater variation by changing primers from that used to test for the data. Also you have to understand that most bullet makers simply do not do their own testing, so there is no knowing where their data comes from who by what method it was measured so we can only follow what is published and do our own due diligence regarding changes to pressure/velocity according to the components (brass volume, primer, seat depth etc etc) and methods we use, Cheers.

Hard to beat the speed and accuracy you get using 2206H and 2208 in your 223 for 55 and 60 grain bullets. Load them up until you see pressure signs.i am not sure you will ever get their with these two powders.
