Thanks Bill...looks like it will be ar2207 and either 20 or 25 grain projectiles.
At present I have a good supply of S&B 20 grain factory ammo that seems to shoot very well as well as 200 rounds of hornady 25 grain hollow point factory ammo that shoots equally well.
Need to use a bit of that first.

Yeah the 2219 should be interesting. I'm looking to go into a 17 Hornet loadup as well. I'll try the 2205 and 2207, and if I can find 2219 I'll give that a shot as well.

Results with AR2219 and 25 grain hornady hollow points went very well!
ADI only list loads for 25 and not 20 grain...
Still...0.55 of an inch i will take at 100 meters i will take!

Well that looks nice. I have not even seen AR2219 but looks like I should give it a run.
Keep us informed.
Mine is out getting a new barrel ATM, and am looking forward to getting back out in the paddock.

Thanks Bill.
I'm pretty happy with the results.
Its a very low pressure load too according to the ADI data.
I'm shooting the minimum load of 12 grains...maximum is 12.8.
Minimum load is 30600 psi breach pressure from memory.
Odd thing....as I went up the scale from 12, 12.2 and 12.4 grains, the point of impact got lower at 100 meters?
The other weights grouped ok but 12 grains really seemed to be the sweet spot in my rifle.
Have now loaded 50 and will see if the foxes like them or not?

Nice work. Doing the business. Watched the video a couple of times. Just to see the little recoil and clarity of pic wants me to get the 17 back in a hurry. They tell me that my barrel is fitted and the will be posted after Easter.

Agreed 100 percent.
My 223 barely gets used as I prefer the 17 hornet.
I've shot foxes out past 200 meters and if I get a decent solid hit...they may run sometimes but never get far.
Low noise means I don't frighten anything away for the next 2 hours and accuracy is extraordinary.

Re: Reloading the 17 Hornet

I have just had my 17Hornet rebarrelled in stainless .
They cut this chamber very neat and headspace is minimal. The only factory ammo I had in the safe was 10 rounds of S and B ammo but it would not chamber. I got back in touch with the company who did the work and I was told they had test fired it with Hornady factory. I am not a factory ammo person and so had to do a bit of a ring around to actually find some. I now know why I reload, $50.00/25 rounds. Bloody hell. This factory ammo did chamber nicely so I was happy to knock out some reloads.
I do have some factory 20gn Hornady projectiles but the majority of my use are my own swaged projectiles and I wanted to just use them and not chop and change. I have a few different powders available including a 1/2 tin of IMR 4227 and so that was the powder to be used up first.
I tried it from 9.8gn to 10.1 and the milder load of 9.8 was the winner with a couple of nice groups of 15 and 17mm at 100m Also tried the powder with home grown 25gn but that did not run anywhere near as well with that powder.
To finish off, I put 5 rounds of the 20gn Hornady factory ammo down range and that made the little girl bark. Huge difference in report noise. The POI was identical to my 25gn loads and printed a little 12mm group. It seems to shoot very well in the 1:9 barrel but at $2.00/shot I will stick to my reloads and slightly larger groups. My little pills work just fine and cost very little. Wallaby’s can not tell the difference between 12mm and17mm. Dead is dead.
The big surprise was the difference in factory ammo dimensions. The S and B was very difficult to chamber with a very heavy bolt and the Hornady ammunition closed easily. Even with FLS brass the bolt is neat and firm. Ejected cases show no sign of the Hornet case bulge at the web and I can get a projectile to touch the lands while it is still held by the neck of the case. With the old 527 barrel this was not the case. It had a huge jump to the lands.
I will load my reloads now with the remainder of the 4227 and not do any more testing. Burning up primers for the sake of maybe 5mm improvement is not required and just plain expensive.

I am happy enough with how it shoots There are no foxes down here and the bunnies are far and few between ATM so it’s main work will be under a light thinning out wallabies, ( permit). It is a bit big and noisy for this work but cheaper than the 17HMR with my own projectiles. More than accurate enough for this work as well. We will see.
I do not know how much longer it will be cheaper than the HMR as I priced some primers the other day. Looks like they have tripled in price since my last purchase…..a long time ago. $140 / 1000. I will do a bit of a ring around at some of the local places. I still have a few thousand and so I will treasure them.
At 14 cents a primer, it would be by far the most expensive of my current components. With that said, I looked at the cost of projectiles for a little 17 cal, bugger me dead $50.00/100. At that price, I will stick to my own bit of recycled brass and lead.

Bill, the current world wide shortage of primers has pushed prices up.
My advice would be buy some if you can, they are advising that we may not see primers imported for a few years so stock up if you can?
Luckily I have a good supply of the 25 grain hornady projectiles that my rifle seems to love as yes, projectiles are also in short supply and getting expensive.
I have a brick of remington, a brick of cci and 2 bricks of Winchester primers in small rifle, should see me through this drought, not so sure how the Winchester ones are, they were not my first choice and hopefully prove to be ok.
Currently using the remington 71/2 ones with good results.
I do also have a good supply of S&B factory ammo but need to establish if it really shoots ok in my hornet, my sons rifle loves it.
Hmr ammo has risen dramatically in price too...

Primers do not seem to be an issue here. The bloke at a shop I was at today said he had 20K in another shop. That did not mean he was selling them cheap though.

Just about to run out of factory ammo and use my reloads full time, got about 100 loaded rounds and quite a bit of brass, should be an interesting time!
I will alter my scope settings slightly (digital infiray td50l night vision) as my reloads shoot about 12mm lower than factory rounds.
Good thing about my scope, it gives x and y values as an actual measurement at the range you select so easy to dial in to where I want it (yep, measurements are spot on... I tested it).
More foxes to meet their demise soon, will try to post photos and video
