Loaded Barnes XPB in 444 Marlin 225grain tested POI at 50m and velocity

Brass: Starline
Rifle: Marlin 22" 1;20 Twist
Powder: 2207 H4198
Primer: Winchester LR

ADI Load data 42.2= 2107fps - 46.9 = 2361fps (24" test barrel in book)

44.5g - 2340fps
45g - 2311fps (anomaly)
45.5g - 2364fps
45.8g - 2380, 2385fps (2 shots)

I didnt go to 46.9 due to having the velocity at 2380fps - I didnt want to exceed and reached faster than book max which made me question pressure. Primers looked fine.

POI at 50m was exactly the same as my 240g XTP load doing 2350fps
POI at 50m was 14cm/5.5inch higher than the 300g XTP at 2080fps. (load for this was 50g 2206H) clover leaf at 50m.

Very accurate load, a clover leaf at 50m.

At $3.50 per projectile I didnt want to shoot more than absolutely necessary

Load at your own risk, always follow manual, start low and work up.

Nice velocity mate, have you cleaned ya barrel yet ?

I tried these soft copper pistol projectiles in my old custom 44wssm and they shed a ridiculous amount of copper into the rifling, so much so that I stopped the experiment.

I grab 3 bxs of these XPBs to run in my recently acquired Ruger 77/44, should be fun testing on hogs this year.

I paid $35/20 due to Melbourne firearms shutting down, so I grabbed 3 boxes, that load development & 45 pigs for me, throw in deer or two :drinks:
