SWC load data

Post by dasko » 26 Aug 2024, 6:55 pm

Hi everyone,
Is there any specify place to get mainly SWC load data?
I have found they shoot best through my Sig Legion so wanted to drill down on some loads.
I have 2 powders, Vihtavuori N320 and Lovex D032, thats whats was available at the time to buy.
Federal and CCI small PP

So i have projectile wise:
Blackwidow
140grn, 128grn, 115grn
Eminence (https://eminenceprojectiles.com.au/)
I have 128grn

I am not chasing power factor just safe accurate loads, the issue is not many sites have load data for specific SWC projectiles in there load data. Below is all of the 115 grn data on their site, no swc .
example: https://www.vihtavuori.com/reloading-da ... /-1/-1/115
the varience in powder load is a real worry as there is a huge difference in min load data per projectile type.

Any help is appreciated.

The type of projectile for handguns has very little accuracy effect for the majority of uses, this is why most data sheets don't go to the trouble of testing. Just use data for the projectile weight and type of firearm you are using. I have been using SWC in 9mm, 38Spl, 357Mag, 45ACP, 45A-R and 45LC and found no detriment in accuracy compared to other types I have loaded such as LRN, FMJ, HP, and SP. In short range applications BNWC and Spire Point have shown better accuracy but at 50m I can't shoot well enough to see a difference.

If you are talking Lead SWC, I would consider a starting load simply set to mid range of the weights shown on the tables and work from there.
If you wish to be particularly cautious, start at minimum and work from there.

I load 115gn LSWC in both my 9mm (Glock 17A Gen 3 & H&K USP Expert), but as I have adequate holdings of ADI powders, I have not used any others, so my loads are probably of no use to you.
