300 WSM ELD-X 200g loads?

Post by Oryx Pit » 19 Aug 2018, 10:14 am

Hi guys, currently building a 300 wsm and was looking to run the 200g eldx's in it.
Just wondering if anyone has any loads for this combo?

Cheers

If it was me I would grab some ADI short cut and do a ladder test starting at 63 grains and go until you run out of room. You should find a node near 66 grains or above 2700 fps probably closer to 2800. You then have a pretty hard hitting combination suitable for flattening most things out to 800 metres. Good luck with it.

Cheers SCJ429
I was looking at 2213SC as well. Hoping to hit that 2800 to 2900 fps zone.

You should be able to get to 2800 and a bit more depending on barrel length and how hot you load. Finding a node up there is not guaranteed. A few guys I know use the WSM for target shooting from 500 to 1000 and it does really well. Like an oversized 6mm BR. The case has a lot going for it, I am a fan.

It's going to be a 26inch barrel with a defiance action. So plan to push it.

I’m amazed at how deep these >200gn projectiles sit in the case.
Can someone reassure me it’s ok?
I’ve got some 210 Berger’s which I’m apprehensive about using
Thx

Why are you seating them so deep? Because they are hitting the lands or because of your magizene lenght?

Really starting to push out a wet fart with a wsm after 180gn projies, but I would guess compressed loads using reputable software and extreme caution might get you some decent velocity down range, depending on how capable your firearm is to handle it

The WSM will shoot a 210 grain pill within 100 fps of a 300 Win Mag when using 2213 Short Cut. At 2,800 fps this would have enough terminal performance to knock over things at 800 metres.

The 300 WSM is arguably the premier 30 cal long range accuracy round excelling in difficult conditions from 600 to 1000 yards. It has held a number of records at 1000. Commonly long range plinkers are using 215 or 230 grain VLD.

If you don't like the 300 WSM you could always try the up and coming 7mm WSM or the diehards could show everyone how it's done with the 270 WSM.

I have a Sako 300 WSM and it won’t take the round if it’s not seated deep , I’d say it’s 40% out and 60% inside the case
The USA websites say it’s ok so that together with the advice here reassures me
I’ll load up and report back
200gn is not much bigger than factory 180gn I guess
Just thought I’d ask the experts
I’m a big f class reloader and hunting is new to me

If you know Rod Davies , he showed me his 300WSM long range , wow , it was about 12kg and barely recognisable as a rifle.
I got my sako because I’m after about 500m accuracy so I’m encouraged by your advice. Thx
