AR2208 or AR2206H

Post by Stoney » 26 Aug 2018, 5:57 pm

G'day All, I want to reload for a .223, .308 and a .303 and I would like to have one powder. I have chosen AR2208. OR...…. do you think AR2206H is better? Thanks for your input.

I forgot to mention that I like to shoot projectiles on the " Heavy " side.

I think you would be better getting a faster powder for the 223
just what I think

To get the very best results, yes two powders.. But I load both 30-06 & 223 using AR2208. Both shoot sub moa. Good enough for hunting.

I use 2208 in my 303 and 7mm 08 (don't have a 308). When I first stared loading I used 2208 in my 223 for pretty good results. I'd have no problem using AR2208 in all 3.

Mate I am not sure about the .303 but as others have already eluded to, my pick is 2208. I use it for .308, and .223 with good results. BM8208 also goes well out of .308, and .223.

Like the others I’ve had good results with 2208 in my 223 (77-80gr), 308 (168-175gr), 303 & 7.62x54r (174gr).

Why not check things out on the Hodgdon reloading site which carries comprehensive data?
2208 = Varget and 2206H = H4895
ADI supply these powders to Hodgdon who then rebrand them.
The site shows loads vs. pressures which may or may not be true in your rifles.
I suppose there can be benefits in following the herd but if you have some experience in handloading then determining these issues for yourself can be educational.

I use Benchmark 2 in my .223 and .222 loads, but I'd be interested in trying some AR2208 instead. It would nearly remove any need for any other rifle powder for me.

I use AR2208 in my .303's, .243, 7mm-08, .308, and find it a really good reliable powder. Hard to move past that.

Cheers,

Rod.

Use what you want and works best for you trial and error. You can however load up some using 2208 for both that will work for you.

so 2207 works good for you in 222 azza ? 2205 works awsome with 40 gr vmax for me, but benchmark 2 is so-so with 50gr's. was thinking of getting some 2207 for the 50's. just fishing for other options before i buy more powder.

I use 2207 for the 50g z max works very well starting to get to the point of if i find a combo that works well with a set powder/proj combo i just stick with it as oposed to running changing powders proj asi have done in the past.
