1:10 Twist .308 with 178gn Projectiles

Post by JimTom » 19 Sep 2018, 12:42 am

G'day fellas.

I have just noticed some reasonably priced 178gn projectiles and was wondering in you think a 1:10 twist is enough to handle them.
The rifle shoots 165gn 0.5" @ 100m so thinking they will be ok.
Thoughts appreciated.

Yep, 1:10 is all good. Mines an 11.25” twist rate and shoots the 175gr SMKs well

30 caliber 1:10 should be OK for 200 grain or more.
More to the point, when you see cheap projectiles buy them. They are better than money in the bank.
I have been handloading for nearly 50 years and one thing that is obvious is that the price of projectiles only ever goes up.
Because the commodity price of copper has been low in recent times that means that it will go up some time soon and projectile prices will follow.

Thanks for the replies gents. Yes I figured it would be good up to 200gn however I don't mind a second opinion from the brains trust. Wealth of experience on this forum and I don't mind using it. Glad I joined.
Regarding the price of projectiles going up, well I couldn't agree more, prudent advice straightshooter.
Thanks again fellas.

Mate they were $49.90/100. About $20-25 cheaper than I have seen them anywhere else.
