9mm reload cost

Post by FNQ » 13 Mar 2019, 1:44 pm

I use factory ammo.

However I’m considering reloading.

Can anyone tell me roughly how much the cost is to reload say 9mm / box (50)?

Hey FNQ.. i am reloading for about $9.25 for 50 in 9mm.

Caveat on this is that most of the brass i have i have never bought. over 3000 cases and i would have bought maybe 300.

I’m paying about $25-30 / 50

So it about 1/2 to 1/3 the cost.

I’ve been collectng my brass for years and would have 1000s.

Only other things is the outlay for equipment however once purchased should last a lifetime.

I did a rough calculation on this specifically for 9mm about 12 months ago. Noting I live in Central Vic and as such have limited local dealers to purchase consumables from (primers and powders). I order projectiles in bulk from a QLD supplier, and believe it works out at about $0.16 per shot reloading existing brass. Ergo about $8 / 50 rnds. At that price it doesn't take long to recoup costs for a decent press and dies (I use a Dillon Square Deal).

Cost breakdown for my reloads at present.
135gn cast - $85/1000 = $0.085c
Primers - $55/1000 = $0.055c
Powder - $44.90/500gm = 7716gns ÷ 3.5gn = $0.025 per load
Total =$0.165c each round × 50 = $8.25
I have 5-6000 cases, so that's not factored in.
Place I buy ammo from has Geco for $22.90 / 50rd box. So I'm saving $14.65 per box.

Far North Queensland also has limited supplies (or extra costs).

Looks like I’d better look into presses and dies.

Thanks lads you have all been very helpful
