Does anyone here use primer pocket go/no go gauges?

If so, how much $$ and where did you get it from?

Well, I have been reloading for like 40 years and especially for Benchrest Target Competition these days. Never heard of such an animal.... Primer pocket go/no go gauge... ??

You might want to explain a bit more.

What is a "Swage Gauge" ??? Never heard of that either.

Okay, I found out what a Primer Pocket Swage Gauge is... (go/no go gauge) for primer pockets... Hmm. Never used one nor see the purpose for one.
Advertised on Brownells .. a useless tool for those that want an extra tool.

If someone is playing extensively with reloading cases that had "crimped primers" and wants to remove the crimp, that's easy. But a gauge to see if you did it correctly...hmm. Just remove the crimp by any means of different ways from a twist drill to a primer pocket swager and it's done. Once.

The Brownells one... for what it's worth.

They are only $20 USD so no harm in getting one. You can do without one if you buy brass that isn't crimped and if the pocket is enlarged you will feel it when seating your primer. You find that the she'll holder is a good gauge because it it is difficult to get into the shell holder the pocket is probably loose.

It's been awhile but in the past all I have used on crimped primer pockets was a Hornady Prime Pocket Reamer which will remove the crimp but will not expand nor make deeper the primer pocket. I use other tools to uniform the primer pockets for depth. Don't think I have any that will make a cut on the primer pocket wall, they will enlarge over time anyway to the stage of loose primers and it's time to chuck the cases in the bin.

Just a basic check of whether the pocket is to big from repeated use to safely prime. That is all.

If you use a hand primer tool you should be able to feel that the primers are getting easier and easier to insert to the stage that they seat with no pressure at all and then it's near time to turf the cases.

Nice for the gear gunkie but totally unnessary. As stated you will, feel if the pocket has become loose.
