What press to get.

Post by Diddums » 24 Mar 2019, 9:10 am

I currently have a lee challenger press and want to upgrade it to something a bit stronger as I'm going to start loading 300WM.

I'm tossing up between and Forster CO-AX, Redding Nig Boss 2 or a Redding turret T7.

I like primer catch on the CO-AX but was thinking that a turret could speed up the loading process.

Any input from people that have any of these presses would be appreciated.

What is about your current press that makes you believe it isn't strong enough for .300WM?

I know it will probably be up to the task with no real worry but with what I'm currently loading I am getting some inconsistent results sometimes so im wanting to upgrade.

The co-ax will be fairly quick as all you have to do is slide one die out and slip in the next one. Compared to a turret the co-ax should produce better ammo, less run-out, if using match dies for your 300.

I'd recommend the Forster Co-Axial as well.

It's more expensive than other single-stage presses around, but I think they are well worth the extra dollars.

[I now have two of them...]

My 2 cents...

Sierra Bullets used a Redding T-7 to load one million rounds:

Press still in new specs. That Redding press is pretty stout.

I have been impressed with Forster dies so I am guessing their presses are pretty good too.

You can make nice straight ammo with any of them including your Lee. But I am sure someone could make ammo with plenty of run out even using the Forster press.. Get the Forster press and some bushing dies and you won't have any excuses for bending your brass.

Awe done knock the Lee collet neck dies. I think it possibly is something you are doing wrong mate.

I have a Lee turret one and don't use the turret auto index feature. But the turrets Makes it easier to change calibers.

BRT have them back in stock... the coax.

I only got charged $10 when I my got press sent. I'm in Victoria. But I did two orders the same day and some how the press order got missed. After two weeks I rang up and they sorted (BRT) said it would be in the post the next day.

I only did two orders because I got sent the email notification that the press was back in stock after I had completed the first order. So how this created a bit of a mix up in the mail out process. But all good. Easily sorted.

So was only going to be charged $10 but I ended up paying for Express postage. Only would have been $10 otherwise.

Very happy with the press though, need to change my bench setup a little since I'll be loading the press from the front and not the side.

The forster is a great choice. I have one and love it.
Make sure you get the die mounting rings to match.

And make sure you keep the die mounting area clean so the dies can self centre.
