Secondhand reloading gear

Post by magnum012 » 28 Mar 2019, 9:47 pm

I want to get into reloading for the .303 and for what I do it would be better to get secondhand reloading gear.

Just wondering where I should look to find secondhand stuff? Gumtree doesn’t seem to have anything.

I walked into a gun shop for a look see a couple weeks ago - a very country shop - and as blown away to see a mountain of sh reloading gear for sale. (This was at Sorell Tas).
Perhaps email a few country stores local to you - as some more elderly ppl would take their gear in there to sell rather than dealing with some of the muppets on line...or try a wanted advert on a firearms forum / for sale website? I know I have bought a lot of gear I NOW know I don’t reaally need and I’m sure there are heaps of others in a similar position.

gumtree have a policy of no fire are gear to be advertised. I tried to sell a press a while ago and got a nasty gram from them. They pulled the add.
I will speak to a bloke up the road who has a bit of gear that he is trying to sell.

They’re so hit and miss. I’ve bought a bit of reloading gear (and seen heaps on gumtree). I tried to sell a compound bow there once, but my ad would never actually be published - and they never emailed me to say why. But then I’ve since seen a few bows being sold on there. Go figure!

Have a look at the gun sales web sites. They have sub-sections for related equipment.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I’m completely new to reloading so I’m after whatever I need to reload for the .303 Brit. I have read that just neck sizing is the way to go and I’m happy to do that.
All help and advice is greatly appreciated.

I am not much of a target shooter, hunting is my main interest, mostly on foot in the thick stuff. For that use, quick reloading is priority, rather than trying to gain 0.5 MOA by only neck sizing. In this circumstance I full length resize very time. I do not use .303 though.

Many accuracy shooters full length resize every time, this does not detract from accuracy. The main thing to control is neck tension which is critical to accuracy. You can do this with bushing dies or by using cheep Lee collet dies. My thought is that you get the most out of bushing dies if you neck turn your cases.

if you dont neck turn use the lee collet die for the best concentricity

I’m googling all these terms because I’ve never heard a lot of them before.
I appreciate all the wisdom.

The reason I’m only going to neck them is that the chamber in these things is super loose and anything more than neck sizing will kill the brass.
