repriming once fire hornady 223 60gr TAP Urban brass

Post by jeroxde » 07 May 2019, 7:56 pm

G'day,

I just started reloading and have some once fired hornady 223 TAP urban brass, I have been trying to seat a new primer on it but I am having difficulties.
Some primers went in with no issues but some have been difficult to put in.
I am new to reloading and i could not tell from a picture online to my brass if its crimped or not.
I tried searching online but some say that the 223 TAP is not crimped while others say it is crimped.
Any help or information on repriming this brass is greatly appreciated

Thank you

If you put up a picture of your case head many on this forum will be able to tell you if it is crimped.
I think it is unlikely that it is crimped unless the caliber was intended for use in automatic firearms.
You may simply be experiencing starting the primer slightly crooked or there may be slight variations in the punched primer pocket.
In either circumstance you can safely apply a little more insertion force such that by touch the primer feels to be just below flush with the base of the case.
