Up date on the 175-180gn projectiles I've got onto a site and found a person that has tried stabilising them he has to a certain point by pushing them hard but the downside was he shortened the barrel life by half around 460 shots the barrels had major erosion at the lands and cracking and completely shot out around 600 his hunting rifles using average loads and to 160gn projectiles got over 1500 and were still good for hunting this is weighing on my mind and am now very reluctant to try heavy bullets as I can't afford a new 7mag right now if the info is correct so thank to those who helped with their info and i apologise for wasting their time cheers

I am not sure your barrel will be shot out at 600 rounds without very long strings. I have a 300/378 Weatherby which shoots 220 grain pills fast and I did not notice any degradation in accuracy until 1200 rounds. It is far more overbore than a 7mm. I did polish the throat regularly and kept the barrel cool.

Yeah SCJ429 it sounds iffy to me too but it's too late once the barrel is shot I tried to find that site again but couldn't i'll try again tomorrow I don't know your caliber so are those projectile weights heavy for that caliber same as 175-180gn in 7mag ? I also clean my barrels on all my rifles after shooting be it 1 shot or 50 makes no difference and always kept cool during shooting

There are a number of things that can help with barrel life but for me using slower cooler powders helps along with using JB bore paste to polish up the throat every 50 rounds.

Also thanks SCJ429 I run 68gn 2217 for 154gn projectile @ 2950fps I've never shot anything any faster than that I chase accuracy not speed I wasn't too worried about the barrel wearing out in a normal period of time for 7mag but was worried by cutting that time in half by shooting heavy for caliber projectiles and this is what I think the post was pointing out but now i'm a little spooked so I will err on the side of caution and stick with the lighter projectiles ie 150-162gn thanks again
