Is it possible to convert from one ADI powder to another

Post by saucy » 12 Feb 2014, 10:55 am

Hi guys,

I know ADI and everyone else publish powder equivalents for switching brands, e.g. AR2208 = Hodgdon Varget = IMR4064 and so on.

Does anyone know of information on swapping from one ADI powder to another while maintaining the same velocity?

Like if you regularly shot a load of 40gr of 2208 and for some reason had a botlle of 2209 lying around, is there some formula like 40gr 2208 = 42gr of 2209 for the same velocity?

Thanks.

I don't know of anyone doing such a thing.

Don't forget velocity isn't the only factor in choosing an appropriate powder.

Burn rate, case density, bullet weight etc. all play a part.

AFAIK the answer is also no.

If you've got an alternative powder that needs using a little load testing will likely be required for decent results.

Failing that swap it with a mate who uses the powder if possible?

Not heard of such a thing either.

Individual load testing required for all powders.
