6mm 100gr Speer SPBT

Post by Cal-ApeR » 10 Jul 2019, 3:38 pm

Afternoon all,

Quick query - grabbed a box of Speer 100gr boat tails to try in one of my 243s. ADI data has a max load considerably higher than that listed on the Speer website. ADI has a max load traveling and 2950fps whereas max load in the 2209 equivalent is about 2600fps in the Speer data. It's significantly less.

Anyone comment on this particular projectile and what loads they are using to push it? If it shoots well, I'll use it on deer and pigs. Performance on game would also be useful.

Of note, the data Speer list for the 100gr Grandslam projectile is significantly faster. I assume it's something to do with them being cautious with pressure rising in the BT design. 2600 is slow though....
I'd rather be hunting

IMR 4350 & Accurate 4350 are different to ADI 2209.
Similar burn rate & equivalent are quite different, H4350 is a closer match.

If you cannot get 3000 fps out of it your not trying.

3000fps with 2209 is easy in a 22” or longer bbl.

Mmmm....in the 243 ,,and for deer and pigs i would look at the 100gr Nosler Partition OR any 80-85 gr monolithic ........

I have shot plenty of deer like fallow and red with the Norma Oryx 100 gr and GECO 105 gr Teilmantel factory loads but a tougher bullet like the Partition or amy mono's will be a tad better ......especially on the bigger deer and pigs.

If you were going after bigger deer and pigs CK, would you grab the 243 or a bigger caliber?
