Unidentified cast projectiles .30 220gr

Post by thesoundman000 » 05 Nov 2019, 6:51 am

Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone recognises these projectiles (manufacturer if produced, mould manufacturer otherwise)? My LGS threw a pile in with a bulk powder order I did and I can't place the source (he didn't know either but thought they'd been locally cast).

They're .30cal but I'm not sure if .308/.311. They weigh 220gr checked and lubed so somewhere in the ballpark of that bare.

Regardless of confidence in their nature I won't be loading these remotely near hot, just hoping for some cheap rabbit rounds but I'll pass on those if I can't load them safely.

Thanks for any help guys.

They look pretty rough and are badly lubed, that second groove should be full of lube as well.
Look similar to Soup-can mold that N.O.E makes.
With better lube and if they measure .308/.309 they should shoot in any .30 cal.
I'd keep the speeds to around 1700 f/s due to the unknown nature of these.
Trail-boss is always a good powder for this type of work.
Cast, gas checked bullets can be made to handle speeds up to 2100 f/s
if they are cast of a harder alloy, i.e. linotype alloys of BHN of 21/22.
