reloading really just costs you money though... you end up shooting way more and becoming a ballistics nerd and owning really obscure chamberings

its really fun though

Lol Even the obscure chamberings aren't weird enough after a while! I'm on the hunt for a "Smith carbine". They use a rubber cartridge and a percussion cap. Youtube it!

I think at this point you have crossed over from obscure to just plain weird, or crazy weird who would use rubber and why?

So the target doesn't get pregnant. I thought that was implied.

I am interested in beginning the journey to the dark side “Reloading”. I have 223, 270 and 30 06 to reload. I am mostly happy mostly happy with factory amo. For what I do; especially the 30 06 as it doesn’t get to talk much & is generally fatal. But I’m probably looking to get more from the 270 and 223 used for hunting. As a way of expanding my Hunting, I would like to reload. I don’t want to buy junk but I also don’t need a high cost, high output set up, looking for a functional setup. Also I really hate deciding to buy something only to find that I need to get something else to make it work.
If using the starting point of RCBS equipment, is the list below complete?
 Everything needed?
 Needs other equipment?
 Doesn’t need items?

• Rock Chucker Supreme Press
• M500 Mechanical Scale
• Uniflow™ Powder Measure
• Hand Priming Tool
• Universal Case Load Block
• .17-.60 Debur Tool
• Hex Key
• Case Lube Kit
• Powder Funnel
• Nosler #7 Reloading Manual
• Case cleaner
• Measurements calliper
• Die set, suitable for the calibre’s

You need a case trimmer.... also a bullet puller will be beneficial.

What is a hex key? Is it Alan key asset... never used that in reloading itself.

Regarding reloading manual, anyone of hornady, nick harvey or lee will do.

Regarding the die set, either go with lee deluxe which comes with collet neck sizing die.

Or if you got money and want really accurate get a rcbs type s neck bushing die with appropriate neck bushing, and a micrometer seating die (or you can get forster bushing neck die and a micrometer seating die)

this is just lMHO on what l use and like

the lee classic cast press using lee deluxe collet die set is a better setup than the rcbs press with wobble dies,
especially if you are not going to neck turn

the ohaus 505 scale is a better option than the m500 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yi-GCiJ1leY

lee case lube is the go, can be used dry or wet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIHXNYdrddU

case trimmer, http://www.ozgunsales.com/listing/69571 ... mming.html
these are made by my gunsmith and are the ducks nuts

if you are going to neck turn bushing dies are a must, l use redding s type bushing dies and wilson hand dies

Not huge savings straight off the bat but will pay for it self over time
The advantages of hand loading out way the cost of set and opens up many more options in loads if it’s a interesting thing to get in to I enjoy loading my ammunition and all so help friends and family with there’s manly because I’ve got a room that’s just set up with loading benches with my gear permanently set up

From an old thread. Link still works.

A nice little excel file to calculate costs.
