Does anyone know if you can directly sustitute AR2208 for Varget and IMR4064

They all have a similar burn rate and as pointed out Varget is made for the Yanks by ADI and is sold here as 2208. Are you hoping to use the data from IMR to load 2208? What case are you loading for?

sorry, but I don;t agree that any powder can be "directly substituted" .

Refer to the following from uncle Nick....

You want the FAQ, not powder equivalents. Go down to the last question.

AR2208 _is_ Varget same powder, different name. IMR4064 is a different powder.

Thanks for the replies,
I'll use Varget / AR2208 load data for the 7.65x53 with 125gr SKS pills....42-46 grs .....its only a test/fireform load.

You have to start somewhere, lot to lot variations in the same powder can be as much as 5%. What if your barrel has a twist rate of 1:8 and the test data was done in a barrel with 1:14? The test might have been done at sea level with Federal brass and you are at 1000 metres using Remington brass. There are so many variations that you need to consider, which is why you start low and work up.

You may find you can shoot five grains over the ADI published maximum, you don't grab a new lot of the same powder or a different powder with the same burn rate and go straight to you old load. The same applies to changing brass, primers or any other component.
