Dies for 6mm tcu

Post by Rathie » 25 Apr 2020, 9:16 pm

G'day all,

As a summary - have a tikka m55 that I'm hoping to rebarrel and chamber in 6x45 or 6mm tcu or 6x47.

Leaning toward 6mm tcu (favoured gunsmith in Brisbane has reamers for tcu and 47)

I see that Redding does not list dies for either on their website (which I find a little worrying)

Any idea who may be able to procure them or does anyone have some to sell?

Cheers, iain

Redding do make dies for the 6mmx45 and can make custom dies for you.

Or you could use a 223 bushing die with a 270" bushing.

Thanks again SCJ - I’m very new to wildcats. Only ever reloaded factory (and that was many moons ago).

I’ll ask a lot of questions up until the first shots get fired. And then many more after that.

Cheers

Your gunsmith should be able to chamber you 6mm barrel with a 223 reamer and then use a separate reamer to form the neck. If I was going to do this I would be inclined to use an Ackley Improved reamer to cut a 40 degree shoulder. Looks pretty cool if nothing else.

Yep, my thoughts exactly SCJ - the 6x45 so or 6mm tcu.

Swan has reamer for 6mm tcu and 223 ai.

Lucky to have spare mags for the m55 and Swan thinks the existing 222 and 17 mags can be modified (if required for seating depth / projectile length issues)

Will order some dies once a retailer confirms price and availability.

In the market for a complete reload kit - Hornsby has a starter kit with all required for around the 500 mark

Can't wait!

It should be a lovely thing when you finish it. You won't see any others around.

The Tikka has been dropped off to the ‘Smith with instructions to fit a 24”1:10 Chromo barrel , chambered in 6mm TCU and do a full bed job.

Redding dies ordered.

Will troll the ‘net for fireform loads. The 6mmbr website has a great forum attached that has 10 pages of forum discussions on 6x45 and 6mm TCU - loaf info will not be a problem.

Will be using between 70 - 80 grain projectiles (maybe 85) as a do everything rifle from rabbits to goats/pigs both carry and spotlight.

Cannot wait!!
