Clever advertising or money grabbing 6.5mm x 140gn

Post by TassieTiger » 10 May 2020, 7:35 pm

Am I missing something here?
Scrolling through projectiles on a website and at the top of the list 140gn 6.5 SST’s for $67 a box.

But then much further down the same page a different advertisement window for the exact same projectile for $49 a box ?

One is the normal retail price and the other is the 'on sale' or 'specialls' price. Your answer is right there in the images.

Why is the special - at the bottom of the list?

The problem with this, is that anyone specifically looking for 140gn 6.5 will get to the 1st ad and pay the 30% high price - why would you have any reason to believe that they had the same thing cheaper, on sale, further on...?

Mate they have a specials page. They email and put their specials on Facebook.

Also sometimes specials can be open or repacked projectiles. Sometimes i feel they buy bulk boxes and split them. Or the specials are gray imports

Fair enough - I’m not on FB.
if you go on to their main projectile page and search Hornady, the dearer item is at the top, the cheaper at the bottom - just seems a bit cheeky but what ever. Hopefully, no one pays 30% more than they should, would be easy to do - I bet they don’t apply the specials price at checkout for those that don’t see the specials

As far as I know, personal experience, no they don't charge the normal price for sale/special items bought on line.
I'm thinking the reason behind the 'specials' price ad being at the bottom is its a recent website update/listing. Not sure how the websites search engine works regards how it organises the results either.

I was thinking that as well gunnie.

Moral of the story, check their specials page first. They sometimes have really good prices on projectiles i need. Even though we are not shooting atm still thinking.

But their postage prices kill a small order savings

I'm thinking that even if you purchase the full price ones, when the order is manually processed, they would likely apply the discount. Remembering it's not a true online store with that particular place, everything is still handled by a human. I actually find it quite handy to have the regular listing easily available to find, lets me decide whether a bulk order is worthwhile.
