Chamfering too much

Post by nords » 13 Mar 2014, 9:04 am

G'day,

If you've got a bit carried away on your brass and chamfered it a bit too much, is there anything to be done about it?

Or worry about for it?

Long story short, did the inside angle a bit too deep. The inside is find and no problem seating bullets, but the outside edge is sharp.

I guess you just fire it and the neck will stretch out to where you can trim and chamfer it again, but properly the next time around?

Any dramas? Or fire away?

As long as you're not scratching the jacket of the bullet I think you're Ok.

Yes, the neck will stretch to the point it required trimming flat.

Then you can chamfer again and go a bit more gently.

Yep, better the inside than the outside.

Keep the inside straight and chamfer the outside too much and it's like running a razor down the bullets as you seat them.

You'll strip off chunks of the jacket everywhere.
