Load development success

Post by Jarhead » 24 Jun 2020, 6:47 pm

Hi All,

I though I would share some good result from Saturday's load development session.

I test the seating depth and found that .015 is a sweet spot...Tightest 4 shot group I have ever made without cheating!

Next step- get it down to .25MOA.

Hopefully get there this weekend....

Regards!

Jarhead

Very nice shooting!!!!
I’d caution you on buying MDT if you are already getting results like that...at least do some research. I’ve had a bit of a time with MDT and they have proven today - they remove negative feedback re their products...

Just remember, for target shooting, consistency is the name of the game. A thin barrel may open up once it's hot...

Tassie Tiger,

I read through your bent MDT chassis dilemma post with great interest before I ordered mine. I almost didn't order it -but I bounced a few questions off a few friends in the US who each have several MDT setups and they were all surprised looking at yours. I think you just got unlucky and they shipped you a lone bad one.

Plus I ordered a different model- the LSS Gen 2 XL - Southpaws have less choice.

But who knows- I have made many bad decisions before (mostly involving the pursuit of females, spending money or consuming alcohol- sometimes all at once!) and this could be one.

You will know if it is a bad choice because if my Chassis is as wonky as your's I will drag my sorry @$$ back to this forum and 'fess up.

Did the new chassis arrive and everything get sorted in the end?
Regards,

Jarhead

In2anity,

I hear you! That thought is always front of mind when I think of competing in F class later this year. Tikka guarantees 1 MOA performance with factory ammo- but only for the 1st 3 shots......

I bought the lite as I wasn't sure where I wanted to go with it.....I joined a great "catch all' club that supports both hunting and target shooting. I decided at the time that If I hunt, I can keep that barrel but If I compete I can get a heavy barrel fitted later. Looks like I am gravitating to target shooting......

Jarhead

I'm a competative person, so beating my own pb is what keeps me addicted to coming back  Heavy barrels make load development easy, and shoot most ammo well - it just makes things overall easier. You'll have lots of variables to think about if you start shooting comp - it's just one less thing to worry about if you know those follow up shots are going to generally keep landing where the thing is pointed. :drinks: Good luck with it all :)

No mate - it didn’t.
The new chassis arrived a couple days ago.
The barrel alignment issue is now fixed but there are a few other quality issues...ie - forget the handgrip problem, check out the mating of surfaces between chassis and foreend...looks like it was made by...someone that uses the word precision, a little too often in the vocabulary lol.

I’ve sent that photo to mdt - they were not happy. They are trying again - chassis no 3...they did originally say they’d test for a full system and send that - based on my order, but they reneged on that saying it was cosmetics - predominantly - that’s when I pointed them to this photo...nothing. They even deleted my feedback on their forum. Lol. Hopefully yours is all good. Many I’ve seen are pretty decent, I must have just got unlucky...twice lol.

They are crap MM.
When they emailed me and said what the fix was for hand guard (Me fixing their poor QC) - they also added in - that they thought this would resolve my issues, so didn’t feel it necessary to still send a replacement, let alone a complete order.
I literally said what ever - don’t care, but fit and fitment of the two components was more of a concern than the hand guard. THEN they acknowledged it...like, maybe I didn’t see it ? So 3rd time lucky with chassis - but, maybe, it’s the foreend...what ever now - over it. I’ll sort it as per your advice. Eventually.

They sent me a copy of what I’d bought to make the entire chassis complete;
$1400 for everything...so as Stix now does with his shotgun brand, anyone who asks will get my experiences...and photos.

Woo-Hoo! After a cold 6 degree C morning at Hilltop- Here it is...… .238 MOA!!!!

I don't know what to say! I love this rifle! Every time I shoot it, I get better and better results!

Herci,

you are right- the silver Echidna is looking justifiably nervous!

I have been plotting all of my results on a surface graph in Excel, and I can see an accuracy node forming. I am finding that this display method is really useful in load development.

Next step- explore the green area in the graph with more granular loads (i.e. .0125 & .015 seating depth and 39.8, 39.9, 340, 40.1, 40.2 grains)

Lets see if I can get it under .2 MOA...…..

Jarhead
