Remington.223 5R milspec reloading

Post by Bussopete » 13 Jul 2020, 11:09 am

Hi all, I’m a new member.
I’m going to start reloading.
Need any advice for reloading my rifle for long range target shooting.
Say 55gr up, for a 1/9 twist.
I like the ADI 8208 powder.
I’ve had good results with buffalo river 55gr at 500mtrs, I’ve tried other makes with mixed results.
I do understand the 5R can be a bit fussy with ammo.
Thanks for any advice

I used 2206H or 2208 for a 55 grain bullet, it will fill the case and give you a little more speed. The OSA brass you have will be fine to use and I would recommend Vmax bullets for smaller furry critters.

I don't think the 5R is particularly fussy, you will just have to work up a load and keep the copper out of your barrel.

For a 1:9” shoot the 69gr Sierra Matchking. That’ll get you out to 500m with good consistency, even under moderate winds. I compete with that load to 400m.
At what point does lack of maintenance become patina?

Thanks for great help
Those links from Marksman are the best I’ve read,
I do tend to shoot in various temps, some of the factory ammo I’ve Shot might not like the bloody cold ( like me )
