Is this right - 17.5 gn for a 125 gn projectile? Must kick like a mule.

Can I reduce the powder?

I can't see any reason it wouldn't be, but it seems very odd that they don't bother offering any load data for rifle use. You'd see higher velocities from the rifle - ADI claim 270fps more with the same load.
Which bullet are you using? And what are you wanting to take with it? As long as the bullet is above its design velocity when it meets the target it should work fine.

Mainly for farming work so needs to be effective against wild pigs and dogs.

Those 20gn jacketed-bullet loads will probably be too hot for the cast bullet, the GD's should perform very well at carbine velocities.
bigrich wrote:has anybody bin using this in marlin 1894 rifle ? i've been running 21.5gn of 2400 with 240 xtp hornady's for good 50 yard accuracy . i'm trying sierra 240 jhc's now and am going to creep up to that 21.5 powder load . the old "keith" load is 22gn with a 240 projectile .
the listed load data for 2400 is confusing, hornady list 21.5 gn of 2400 as a max load , old "uncle nick" lists 19gn as max . and he's known for his hot load data
any info/opinions guys

My advice is sell it to me for $50 and by a 177 slug gun.
No need to stuff around with reloading then.

Load is 24 grains of 2400 with Sierra 180 grain JSP with a good crimp. Primer is whatever magnum large pistol is available although at times I have used Federal LR without problems.
I found that bullet weight was the best compromise for the kind of shooting I used the 44 mag.
Leave the heavier bullets for the 444.
I recall I tried Blue Dot for a while but went back to 2400.
I expect the current Alliant 2400 will be unchanged in performance characteristics.
