Powder for 303-25?

Post by boingk » 14 Aug 2020, 10:24 pm

Hi gents,

I'm about to start the adventure of loading 303-25, but only have 2205 and 2207 on hand as the local is out of most things.

Would either suffice for a 100gn pill in the 202-25? From what I can see for most similar cartridges you can use about 10/12ths of the 2206 charge for a 2207 charge.

I note the max load for a 100gn with 2206 is listed as 31gn, so would a load of say 24gn of 2207 be a good start?

Note, rifle is a BSA MkIII with new Sportco barrel.

I only use one loading in mine. A compressed load of 2213 with a 75 grain projectile because I have quantities of both.
My inclination is that both 2205 and 2207 powders are much too fast to be usable with any degree of safety.
Does ADI list any loads for those powders?

They do, but not in any powders I can obtain at the moment.

I've sent an email to ADI asking if what I'm looking to do is... well... doable.

So you can understand my thinking, I'm figuring that if I can load 223 and 450 Bushmaster with 2207 the relative midground of 25-303 should be alright.

You will find that 2207 is very fast and have very low case fill for the 303 case. ADI are going to tell you that they do not have any data for your application. Why can't you get some 2206, 2208 or 2209? They are the most popular powders in Australia.

My advice is to go to your local fun shop and spend $50 on some 2208, and do your loading safely. Or come around to my place and I will load them for you.

Thanks for the advice guys. I got onto a mate who loads for 308 and used some of his 2208.

I've gone with a start of 31.5gn over an 87gn Speer hollowpoint. Thats about 15% down from the max load listed by ADI so should be pretty safe.

Thanks again - boingk
