This. Its the 22 cal shortage all over again - remember that a few years back? Couldn't get rimfire rounds for love nor money as the doomsday preppers gobbled them all up. Insanity.

I can't blame the companies, you need the realestate as well as capital to make a line open. Why do that when you can just hire more employees and look good to the public while still turning a huge profit on your pre-existing equipment?

Things where I am aren't too crazy so I'm happy sitting on what I've got for the moment.

That was one of the more bizarre things of the 2013-2014 panic was the desire for people to horde tens of thousands of rounds of .22LR, sometimes more.

I tried to talk some sense into folks, I shot smallbore rifle as a national level competitor, we shot 2-3 hours a day, 5 days a week. Even then I probably only used 20K rounds of 22LR a year.

I did a search around online on some of the big US online ammo sellers and there is 22 available but it is typically expensive match grade ammo. All the usual stuff like CCI is long gone.

Just be because it’s a message about .22 doesn’t mean you have to post .22 times ? Get it. Lolz. Just kidding BLR. I’ve gone it a hundred times myself, when reply hangs.

I haven’t heard of a worn out .23 barrel. My grandfathers jw15 born in the 60’s has had an enormous amount of firings and it still shoots moa of rabbit.

I saw something about a target rifle that surpassed one-million rounds a few years back.

Yes. I try to plan ahead and have enough components for, say, at least 6 months of shooting, for either out on the paddock or home on the range. My regular supplier is not too concerned, but if I go into his place of business and find him in the corner dribbling, I definitely know that a shortage is on the cards. :unknown:

bignose88 wrote:So far this year with everything that is happening are we heading for an AMMO/Reloading shortage? People from Ozziereviews to Shooting Stuff Australia are warning us saying that this Ammo shortage is ALREADY upon us and potentially long term. The Aussie and the world economy is up s**t creek and it's looking it may take many years to recover, people are saying we are in a ressesion and a growing minotiry are saying we are already in a depression. What doesn't help is that the Americans are stocking up on supplies which will cause the price to go up and that is assuming we can even get new stock into Australia. Everyone I have spoken with who own firearm stores are telling me things will only get worse especially for AMMO and Reloading/Powder etc.

What are your thoughts, are you stocking up?

God bless

Im am unaware that shops are having trouble restocking. Yes the sky is falling in type believed the Covid 19 rumours and over bought ammo thus stripping shelves. This happened during a low point in the Aus $$ and when shops restocked they got jacked up prices. My local GS sold more than 12 tonnes of ammo in a week because retards believed the sky was falling in........ it hasnt. :drinks:

Never. I mostly used a post WW2 Harrington and Richardson action that probably was barreled with a heavy barrel in the 1960s or 70s and also at times an Anschutz rifle. The H&R also had a custom stock and weighed about 18-19 pounds as I remember.

So apparently one of the top online stores for reloading components in the USA says the primer shortage is due to all the primers being devoted to factory ammunition production leaving almost none left over for reloaders. A box of a 1000 primers here in the USA are now hitting $300 a box.

I should have filled up my ammo cans with primers as an "investment", all well. I think I probably have about 20-25K but should have bought more.

As people have already eluded to, buy in bulk when the specials are on. Saves a ton of cash and also future proofs you against these shortages if they occur.

So now With all this concern about primer supply I gotta go get me a flintlock , and mine my own supply of flints, or go back to pointed sticks propelled by strings

not hard to work out that Sydney has large gunshops TT, it aint rocket science sunshine.

PPU brass and ammo is brought into OZ in limited supply, I enquired earlier this year regarding unavaible 6.5 Grendel PPU and was told to order 10,000 rounds and they would bring it in next year.

' The minimum order requirement for any calibre of PPU is 10,000 rounds and orders are submitted twelve months in advance.'

Surely there are other brands of 300 brass worthy of your attention  :sarcasm:

Please do. I can buy the un-rifled short adaptors easily, but they're as expensive as the longer Chiappa rifled ones.

Four months back we escaped the Southern Socialist Republic to retire in Albury, a close run [prescient ?] thing given time to sell the Melbourne home and buy here.
The local gun shop is excellent compared to what is in Melbourne, Elks do not know me from a bar of soap but when I call I identify myself by name and ask politely re stock.
Staff identify themselves by given name when answering the 'phone and when I arrive the goods have been set aside for me.
The key to engaging with folks is be polite, almost universally that approach is naturally reciprocated by local people.

Everything still seems to be available here in QLD, prices are going up as dealers get new stock in but that was expected anyway.

I think there will be a lag and we'll get hit with some shortages in a few months time when the wholesale importers don't receive shipments because they've been redirected tot he US and sold at twice the price.

Only the wholesales really know the stock levels in Australia, the rate that dealers are making orders and the availability of the next imports so they could predict an upcoming shortage (and by predicting it, make it happen), the rest of us are just guessing.

Hi all. I’m in Canberra and can not get BM2 or 8208 in Canberra, Braidwood or Goulburn and no one has been able to tell me when it will be available. Does anyone know or heard when these powders will become available again? So frustrating, I got a new .223 rifle and after months of testing loads I finally found that my rifle performs best with BM2 and before anyone suggests I try 2206h or BM1, I have and with multiple projectiles.
