Subsonic .308 load

Post by Faedy » 03 Oct 2020, 10:41 pm

Im wanting to experiment with some subsonic .308 loads.
I have some of the new Hornady 190gn "Sub-X" proj and some ADI Trailboss powder or some AP70n.
Has anyone got some starting loads?
Edit - some online research indicates 12gn is the magic number, so I will load a few up to try and report back.

Mate I don’t have a specific load for Trail Boss however on the ADI load data website in the FAQ section there are instructions on how to obtain your starting load with Trail Boss.
I’d be very interested to see how you go mate.

I looked at the above link, and will give his load a run.
Ive used the winchester subsonic loads with lots of success, so if I can replicate them, I will be happy

Rugga and Bigpete
Did either of you chrony them loads to see what velocity was being obtained, or did you have hotter loads that actually cracked the sound barrier?

I did buy a box of the 190gr Hornady Sub-x to try in my 308. But haven’t got around to it. I do have a magneto speed so can check the velocity of loads. My 308 has a 26 inch barrel.

I use a bit of Trailboss mainly in the 204 Ruger and 303. Will be interested to see how you go.
