Hornady GMX 180gr and Model 70 300WM seating depth issues

Post by Alm1990 » 08 Mar 2021, 5:26 pm

Hello and good day all
I’m new to reloading I have some Hornady GMX 180gr and working on load for my model 70 300 win mag and have found the very long throat will not let me get very close to lands with groves in bullet and at .130 off lands barley fit to be pushed down in to load and puts the base of bullet way below shoulder neck and leaves one ring exposed on bullet. I’m thinking the GMX not for my gun any advice appreciate

Ignore bullet jump unless you are having trouble building a load, just load so it'll feed, and see how well it shoots.

Second blades comment ....there’s a YouTube vid titled CHASEING THE LANDS IS STUPID ......I don’t 100 per cent agree, but I do think rifling engagement or a little jump is Often not crucial and sometimes not worth the trouble ,

Exactly where I was going with my next comment. I have a Win mod 70 in 300WM, and I just load to the recommended COAL and have excellent accuracy out of it.
