just completed my first 60 rounds.
highly recommend the XL650. all seems absolutely consistent with no issues... well actually one issue was i forgot to put the empty primer warning rod in and i ran out of primers. made 3 cartridges without primers... the bullet puller came out and did its job.
very pleased. Now its off to Silverdale in the morning to see how the T3 handles the new loads!

How stable is it pete?

(Not knocking it, just asking.)

Those legs are bit thinner than I imagined for such a serious rig is all.

Any give in it or rock solid?

I survived! LOL

All 61 rounds went off very nicely. Grouping was much nicer than the factory fed prem tactical i have been using and so i feel like its a good start.

Chronos bore witness that the firearm and I are still in one piece and also gave me some further tips. Thanks Chornos!

I was pretty nervous on the first round, especially after the recent story about the hand load guy that took his face out with a backards shunting bolt!

60 rounds were with 44gr AR2208, 155gr Nosler CC and 1 round was 46gr 2208.

Next batch i will try for 45 or 46gr of 2208 - haven't decided yet.

Hey Seconds, i know what you mean - i initially didnt get it because i thought that. i later changed my mind and ordered it seperately. by looking at it, you would think that the extra base stand they sell wouldn't be very stable, but i can assure you its absolutely rock solid. it doesn't wobble, vibrate of move at all. The steel seems thick enough and its very solid. It's then bolted through close to 2 inches of wood (old kitchen bench top and extra hard wood.)

Once you're on top of everything with your handloads and have found the cartridge your rifle really likes, factory ammo just doesn't compare.

Of course there is 'accurate enough' ammo for hunting and fun target shooting.

If you want it to be the best it can be though, hand loading is the way.

Cool. :)

I'd have high expectations for such a set up was all. Like I said not trying to rain on anyone parade, just in the photo the base looked a bit suspect

No worries mate! Like I said, I was dubious too. It costs an extra AUD69 for the high stand... I'd be very pee'd off if it didn't work well for that price! Its probably only 5$ worth of steel and manufacturing!
Anyway it worked out well as it means its above cupboard door closure level, so more sporting goods can go in the cupboard!

I don't know what you mean but that chronos guy is quite intelligent and handsome as well, hardly surprising he shoots so well and does so well with the ladies.

LOL

Petemacsydney impressed me with his focus for a guy who hasn't been shooting this rifle very long, his ammo looked good, and his groups were consistent all day (and he was there almost all day LOL) .

i know this isn't a load development thread but i'd say load up a few steps in between your 44 and 46gr and look for a load that is better than your 44gr load. you could make .3gr jumps, load 6 of each step and see if one load or two stand out, maybe even take it out to 200m if the wind is a mild as it was today

Hmmm, 200m awaits! next time i shall take her out!

Yeah I think you got me on the slow build up. I've been thinking about it more this afternoon.

I think I'll jump to 45 and then step by .2.

It's an addictive sport!

I've only got $1.50 left after buying all that reload gear, but more than happy to chuck it in for a great cause like buying a hunting island...
