Looking to make a reduced youth load for pigs, goats, fallow sized game. Don't want too high MV as sierra says performance on such game at high velocity maybe too explosive. They say at moderate velocity it performs well on game of this class.
ADI data is 45gn making 3113fps and 47.5gn making 3215fps, so 100fps difference for 2.5gn, when the case is almost full.
Reducing by another 10gn will drastically increase empty case volume so I would _guess_ velocity will be down around 2200-2500-ish. It's a light bullet so it's still going to be traveling even on 20gn of powder, I doubt it'll be under 2000fps yet. And you are still burning a lot of powder, 50% more than a .223 load.
If you don't have a chronograph, shoot a 5rd group at 100m and 200m and measure the drop, then calculate the _rough_ velocity back from that. If you change the load you will have to re-zero at 100m again before shooting it at 200m. If it's zeroed at 100m, at 200m it'll be about 110mm low at 3000fps, 140mm low at 2750fps, 180mm low at 2500fps, 240mm low at 2250fps, 310mm low at 2000fps and so on. You could try zeroing at 50m and measure 100m drop, but it'll be less precise. 100m drop will be about 38mm at 2000fps, 22mm at 2250fps, 10mm at 2500fps, 0mm at 2750fps, about 3mm high at 3000fps.
You might find it difficult to get good accuracy with so much empty volume though, Trailboss would be a better choice, if you can get it. Or you could try a filler.
