200 xtp in 44 mag

Fellas, anyone ever run the 200xtp on game? I know 240's are usually the go-to but curious at to whether anyone has tried 200xtp factory ammo or handloads in a carbine.

No experience but it’s probably a fine choice for the following reason ... if it can be driven faster than the 240 and u crunch the numbers u may find the energy levels better and a flatter traj as well. It still has same diameter as the 240 and 200 grains is more than enough weight to cleanly take a large boar. After a long break from 357 loading and hunting , prior to kicking off again I did some research on pill size and I ended up ignoring the common 125 and 158 for the aforementioned reasons ... the 110 came out on top

I also load 90 weight in my 270 instead of the common 130. It turns the flat shooting 270 into a very flat shooting 270 .... so much so that it’s not really a 270 anymore A fast 243 is a better description..... if I gave it a name I suppose I would call it my 243 SUPER

Nice BLR. I was always in the same camp with lighter bullets for calibre. The 110xtp in 357 is actually quite a tough little bullet apparently. Be interesting to see how it goes. By the way if you want any 357 bullets let me know, I still have a lot of xtp(110,125,158, 180gn) and 135 gold dots left going cheap. Would be able beat shop prices even with the postage.

I have only tried XTP's in 300 gn in my 44 mag and found it "uncomfortable" to shoot.
I generally use old Sierra 180 gn projectiles that I have hoarded. Acceptable accuracy and trajectory with plenty of smash at 100 to 150 meter ranges. Spectacular at closer ranges.
I imagine 180 gn and to a slightly lesser extent 200 gn XTP's would be much the same.

I post this up on some US hunting forums relating to pig hunting and you get replies of nothing less than 240 grain hardcast or 45-70,or you are taking your life in your hands, :) One thread a fella even suggested 338 win mag for charges.

Here are Aussies and Kiwis flogging pigs of all size and shape with 180-240 hollowpoints, 243 win, even hollowpoints in 357.

The funniest thing is the yanks have some seriously big game to handle, elk, cougars, 3 types of bear, stuff that can outrun, outswim and outclimb you. Some mangy hog( which teenagers in my hometown take with a couple dogs and a sharp knife all day long) however is regarded as an armor plated godzilla :D

I have never thought of it before but mick b u are correct , Cougars bears and elk they are not phased by but they seem to think every boar is built like a rhino with long tusks that will slice them into quarters

yep Ive seen it for 20 years on forum and still no idea why. If hogs were as dangerous as they say, a state like QLD where the pigs outnumber people would be a pretty hazardous place. We would have ''hog spray'' for hikers to take with them and rules about leaving food scraps about :D

classic movie bladeracer,! I saw it when I was a teen. The 458win mag mentioned in there was one of the inspirations to get into big game rifles.
