165 grain sierra game changer data for 7 rem mag

Post by Clint Ellison » 10 Jul 2022, 4:43 pm

I've got some 165gr gamechanger tipped game king projectiles I want to load for my 7mm rem mag. Has anyone tried these in there 7 mag? I'm looking for a safe starting load using adi 2225 and 2217. I can't seem to find any data for 165 grain projectiles in 7 rem mag being an uncommon weight.

Work from the lower end of 162G data unless there’s a major variance in bearing surface area of your projectile V Hornady’s 162G offerings. Then just keep an eye out for pressure signs and use the crony.
You should be fine, 7Mag chambers are famous for accommodating higher loads than published data tables anyhow.
I’ve used 2213SC, 2225 and currently 2217 in my 7Mag. Some 7Mag barrels don’t like 2225. If you don’t load 2225 up nice and hot it can deposit baked carbon crud in the lands, happened in my factory sporter barrel and took forever to remove.

Good advice, if you wanted to use 2225, for example, you can be sure that 70 grains will get the bullet out the end of of the barrel. Keep adding powder until you run out of room in the case or you see pressure signs. I would load one case per increment and shoot them off looking for pressure. Don't have big jumps in charge weight, 0.3 of a grain is fine.
