Do any brands of reloading dies & presses not work together

Post by effex » 04 May 2014, 11:01 am

Hi guys,

I suspect this is ok, but do any brands of reloading dies and presses not work together?

Can you mix and match Redding, RCBS, Lee, Dillon, Hornady etc. presses and dies?

I assume they all work together?

Cheers.

There were some Simlex Dies that were 3/4" and not the common 7/8" size but there's it much chance you'd buy one if those these days

Tho only thing I'd say to be careful of is to try and buy the same brand shell holder as you do dies. TGERES been the odd complaint that mixing shell holders with different brand dies can cause some sizing issues.

They are all pretty much interchange. Simplex as mentioned. I'd recommend matching brands of shell holders and dies as stated as well. Hornady make a lock and load press that won't take dies with out a quick attach locking bit. You'll need more of the locking bits for every extra set of dies unless you separate the die from the locking bit which defeats the purpose of the whole system.

There are a few speciality/niche ones out there that won't mesh.

TBH I can't even remember the names of them. Just articles I've read on people doing new stuff.

For all the mainstream stuff though it's all interchangeable.

Thanks guys.

I'm sure I'll be going with mainstream brand stuff. Don't need anything crazy.

So all the brands I mentioned there (Redding, RCBS, Lee, Hornady) will all work? No exceptions to worry about?

Nah,

Most of the differences in the dies are features like hand dials or not, the Hornady 'lock n load' system, things which change how you use the dies, not what the dies work with.

They'll all work together fine.

It's more common than not for guys to be mixing brands in their kits. Sure you'll find plenty of guys here are using press X and dies Y.

Yep. I have an RCBS press and a reloading mate has a Lee one.

Between the presses we have used each others Redding, RCBS and Hornady dies.

I have four presses that I use regularly: a C&H, RCBS and two LEE'S

I use LEE, Hornady, RCBS, Redding, Super Simplex(with and adaptor), simplex, C&H and Redding dies - they all interchange but I prefer the LEE dies in general.

Just my personal opinion.
