It's a strange situation. Powder is apparently becoming widely available in the US again.

Most ADI powders are sold in the US under Hodgdon's brand, lots of load data if you use the Hodgdon names - listed in the ADI FAQ. Hodgdon don't make powder, they're just a reseller of products they buy the rights to sell.

.357 is a pistol cartridge so most rifle powders aren't going to work well. Some will certainly spit the bullet out the muzzle but most won't make much velocity and will leave a lot of residue in the barrel. If you can augment it with a grain of pistol/shotgun powder on the primer you may get decent results, but pistol powders would be better if you can get them. No powder manufacturers bother listing data for powders in cartridges wildly unsuited to them.

There are at least two new people importing small amounts of pistol powders, so far with some success which may lead to larger imports. The prices are very steep though, either just for the powder or requiring you to buy bullets as well, even if you don't need them.

Not sure what your reloading, but if the powder is in good condition that equals around 8,818 reloads if your loads are 3.5g

Only you can answer if it's worth it.....if I had no powder it would be.

Someone from NSW is trying to sell 500g of AR2205 or 2208 for $200 each on abused guns (well if you zoom into the picture they are 500g bottles).
HPGS and Abelas have AR2208 1KG for $145 in stock (just as an example).
Is opportunistic even the right word?

AR2208 is readily available, AR2205 is not, and is very useful for pistol/shotgun reloaders.
I chatted with a guy last month who is a scammer from Nigeria, he claims to have powder for sale - do your checks before sending any money to anybody. People are desperate for pistol powders and scammers see them as easy targets.

About 4 months ago I paid $115 for 1kg AR2208.
I believe it's being produced.

I just had a look at that ad and it says it's "Safari Firearms or Western Firearms".

$200 for half a kilo of 05 at the moment is bloody half or what you can get .
If i had 357 Magnum or a 44 Magnum ID buy it and I wouldn't whinge about the cost you either want to shoot or you don't.
Fantastic stuff for 300 blackout and the like .
