AP50N vs AS50N

Post by Jackaroo » 24 Mar 2023, 11:34 am

I'm just about out of AP50N, it's my powder of choice and what I've used forever .32, .38 & 9mm

I have a healthy amount of AS50N, but never used it before.

On the ADI equivalent webpage its lists APS450 / AS50N as the close/same -

http://www.adiworldclass.com.au/powder-equivalents/

Anyone gone from using AP50N to AS50N?

Yes very close I have found the as50 to be very close used it in 38 special and 45 acp for about 6 years just knock it back .2 .3 of a grain and Chronograph the speed to be safe does not meter as well but just work on your technique on the powder thrower unless you were using a progressive press then you just stuck with the way that flows.

They are basically the same thing, AP50 is cut slightly differently to improve metering of small quantities, 2-4gn for pistol rounds whilst AS50 is cut into round flakes that are probably lower cost to create and meter well enough for the 20-25gn measures that go into shotshells.
It's noticeably more difficult to get consistent weights of AS50 through a Lee disk measure for pistol loads.
