pistol powder pirates

Post by bigrich » 04 Apr 2023, 5:51 am

most of you fellas have seen the crazy scalpers/pirates trying to take advantage of pistol powder shortages.
on usedguns this morning someone in SA has 2KG of AP100 for sale for $2000  FFS !
and i thought a add for 4kg of trailboss for $1000 was excessive !

I gather a couple of years ago that would have been about $400 ?

Would've been under $300 when he bought it.

For a typical 4gn 9mm load that's 26c per round for powder.
Add another 20c for the primer and likely around 20c for the projectile and assuming you already have the brass you're up to 66c per round plus the time and effort to make them.

Factory rounds are still available for less than $33 per box of 50, I think I'd rather have poorer grouping and go that route, at least it adds more once fired brass to the collection for the future.

$1000 per kilo is about three times the price that it would cost to recover your own fast powder from shotshell, hopefully that seller will never find anyone to gouge.

The main thing is the old pensioners who are giving up pistol shooting continue to gouge the youngsters for every last cent before they blow the lot on the pokies.
That is what we call supply and demand.

A whil back i was chaseing a little bit of red dot but a bloke wanted to sell his entire 8 pond drum that was already partly used for 480 bucks. I thought it was a bit steep but i did not complain. Now im super stoked about the score and im guarding it with my life

Thomas Sowell is a great thinker of our era....
But what should be clear is that one is under no obligation to pay those high prices.
It's not like one is dealing with the Government or some other form of mafia.

If it's the only powder on the market you may well be obligated to pay it, if you want to keep shooting.

Yup. Especially with a licence that has compulsory participation requirements, as with Cat H.

You must be grinning that you snapped up that 2kg AS50N from me, a couple of years back!

Ring around some gunshops and be prepared to travel. A lot of folks have scored Vectan powders for $120.00 per 500gm container in the last couple of weeks.

There will be more coming into Australia, thankfully someone has stepped into the breech for Aussie pistol and shotgun shooters.......ADI, hang your collective heads in shame.

Great stuff, I'm really glad that Vectan powders have been able to be sourced by some of my fellow shooters who were down to just dregs and at just normal retail prices.
