What bullet types most used?

Post by Oldbloke » 01 Jun 2023, 9:28 am

Just wondering which type of bullets are used successfully on game for chest shots.
Do you mostly use basic cup & core, or perhaps interlocks, hotcores, Nosler petitions, or copper?

Are the more expensive bullets really much better than the more basic/cheaper bullets? Or do the cheap cup & core do the job?

Best I've used in my .223 for consistency, Hornady RooMax 55gn SP.
Best for sheer destructive power, Rexem 62gn F-Bombs.
Best for longer range, Nosler 70gn RDF

Im using 85gn sierra hollow points in my grendel on goats. 6.5x55 is running 120 or 130gn sierra game kings cant remember the weight. The 6.5 06 gets 140gn speer gold dots. They are a sexy looking pill

For most game a cup and core bullets works. Find one that is accurate.

For bigger animals I generally use everything from Remington Corlokt through to Woodleigh, partition and Accubond. Depends on the cartridge I am using.

My .308 rifles generally run Corelokt.

I think that answer depends on the combination of calibre and game taken. With my .243 hunting pigs, I reckon cup and core is the go. But that would change if I was consistently shooting 100kg pigs. I have some 95gn Partitions for that if the occasion arises. If I was using a .223 I would look at different construction projectiles for sure.

140 sst's in my 6.5x55 great on goats and pigs. 150 accubonds worked great on pigs and reds in my 7-08 , 55 vmax in my 223 . maybe a little too explosive. great accuracy with all these pills . gives me the confidence with long shots . and they all performed great terminal wise
with the 140sst , what people say about longer range accuracy of the 6.5 swede is true with these :D
