Anyone Know this Headstamp?? [OLN]

Post by Jorlcrin » 27 Aug 2023, 10:09 am

Got given a bag of once-fired brass from my BIL.

Mostly a mix of ADI, Hornady, Fiocchi, and Winchester; all .223Rem.

In amongst it, I find this single case; Headstamped "OLN 13".
I've photographed and blown the image up, so I'm sure I've read it right.

So, given no calibre info on the stamp, I'd expect it to be an ex-mil case, but cannot find any reference to a headstamp of "OLN" in any online reference.
Primer was also crimped.

Anyone run across this headstamp before?
The headstamping style/text looks similar to the way the OSA brass is stamped.

If it doesn't have "223" stamped on it then it's probably NATO 5.56x45mm (primer will be crimped), and OLN would lean me toward OLIN Corp, or Winchester.

BladeRacer,

Thanks for that; Ties in with the handful of Winchester Brass in the bag.

I had wondered if it might be OLIN, but my searching didnt come across that article you found.
Many thanks.

Winchester Olin may well have initiated a contract and ADI could well have loaded the case but the case was likely made in Cuba or there was also one European company that used the 13 code . Don't think that Cuba would be out of the question as they have 230 arms factories managed by 16 Research and Development groups . Their arms and ammunition manufacturing is way bigger than ADI Australia .
