Reloading Advice - Hitek 30-30 & Hitek .303

Post by Wyatt Burp » 04 Jan 2024, 1:40 pm

G'day fella's,

After some reloading advice for Hitek 30-30 165 gr & Hitek .303 165 gr pills (NOT gas checked).

Bought them from Boyne River Projectiles.

Will be loading using ADI 2206H.

Looking at the ADI loading tables there's no loads for both calibres for the 165gr pills that I have.

So I'm after some loading data and advice. What's the thoughts on these loadings and the fps for the Hitek coating?

30-30 '94 Winchester
165gr Hitek (non gas checked)
27.5gr AR2206H
(Very roughly guesstimated) around 1945fps

.303 SMLE
165gr Hitek (non gas checked)
34gr AR2206H
(Very roughly guesstimated) around 2300fps

Do Boyne Bullets offer any load advice for their bullets?

Assuming the bullets are fat enough for your bores I would reduce those velocities starting out.
ADI does have load data for .30-30 160gn cast so I'd be looking in the 17gn to 20gn range with AR2206H, keep an eye on leading and try to recover some bullets and see if there's any appearance of gas cutting.

ADI/Hodgdon don't have data for .303 with AR2206H/H4895 but looking online it looks like you should be looking around the 23gn to 25gn region.

Personally, I'd want them to be .310" diameter in the .30-30 and .314" in the .303 and if I want to push them hard I would gas check them before powder-coating. But keep increasing the velocities monitoring leading and accuracy and you might be able to push them fairly hard.

Castbulletassoc.org would be a good place to start looking, or the Facebook cast bullet groups. LERAA has some members that play with cast bullets in .303 so you could ask them on their FB group. Enfield-Rifles forum has a long thread about cast bullets - https://www.enfield-rifles.com/cast-bullets_topic11779_page1.html

Thanks Bladeracer.

I bought the bullets through a gunshiop, but here's the company link. I wished I bought heavier projectiles :(.

https://www.boynebulletco.com.au

Got these two loadings from some books I have but they are for 200gr and 180gr for a powder equivalent to 2207 which I have. Both list the powder charge at 21gr for around 1600pfs.

What would the charge be for a lighter pill of 165gr???
