45/70 loads with 2207

Hi all
I have a h&r trapdoor 1873 little big horn model in 45/70
I am wanting to use cast 500 grain projectiles and 2207. Powder
I've been using 2207 with 405 grainers at 29 .7 grains but wish to use the 500 grainers
I K ow loads are available for black powder but really want to use smokeless

You might find this of some use.
QuickLOAD 500gn data seems to agree with ADI
Interestingly, the on-line ADI data no longer shows anything for 45/70 in the "Single Action" listing.
Usual proviso - caution.

I just made a few Sierra HPFN 300grains with 30grains 2207 for the next outing, I'm sure the Sierra's will expand and work well even at that speed. Will post back when I get a chance to shoot it

I guess not much to go subsonic from here, keep in mind the Trapper is a short barrel so you would loose some speed

Save your 2205 for when it’s needed. 2207 sounds like the go.

I tested 30 grains of 2207 with 350 Hornady FN core locked and was very unburned, might need some filling under 30 grains

30 grains on marlin trapper gave me: 995.0fps, SD 16.5 and spread of 40, might increment a little to see if I can reduce the SD and burn better and keep it under 1100 fps
