For those interested, ADI advertise their military products under their 'Australian Munitions' trading name and even identify the propellant powders used.
AR2205 seems to be used only in 81mm mortar (page 21), no faster pistol powders seem to be in use so it is unlikely that they will divert any existing plant capacity from slow to fast powder production.

It does seem likely that 2205 is currently being produced for military contracts but with no spare capacity to feed any into the retail market.

Ukraine war excuses get more ridiculous each day.

Shelves were empty of Ar2205 before the war started. we had no runs of AR2205 two years before it kicked off. NATO wasnt directing mass supplies to close to 2023 either.

A cancellation of a product from civilian use is just that, regardless of the excuse.

If that's true, it would support the story of the new production line not producing.

Maybe Im wrong, but pretty sure all the threads about pistol powder shortages were starting 2021, not 2022 or 2023.

This war has amazing value for big business so far. it can be used to gouge prices on everything from raw steel to toilet paper in the supermarket, has doubled the net worth of the worlds wealthiest and also affects things the year before it started.

I heard today that ADI ran a test batch of around 1 tonne of APS950 earlier this year and used 200kg for testing with the powder meeting all specifications, so the remaining 800kg was sent for distribution and a lot of stores got a small amount each.

I also heard that a new batch of 30 tonnes is in progress and should be ready around October which means that a lot of stores will get a reasonable amount and a lot of us reloaders will have some new load development to work on.

What's wrong with APS950? They already have load data for lots of stuff.

Propellant Update

Thank you for your patience since our last propellant update.

We are experiencing continuing strong demands for all of our propellant products. The factory continues to run at maximum capacity, 24 hours a day, 5 days a week, and we’re supplying as much propellant to the reloading community as possible.

Below is an update on our propellants and their availability.

AR2208, AR2209 – We have these propellants represented through the different stages of manufacture almost constantly.

AR2213SC, AR2217, AR2218, AR2219, AR2225 –
Is typically made multiple times a year.

Benchmark 1, Benchmark 2, Benchmark 8208 – These propellants only account for a small proportion of our annual demand and are currently in production. We endeavour to make them in line with market demand.

Trail Boss, AR2205, AR2206(H), AR2207 – These propellants only account for a small proportion of our annual demand, and manufacturing is scheduled for late 2024/early 2025.

APS Propellants – The team are currently working through manufacturing of quantities of propellants from our Australian Pistol & Shotgun (APS) range and manufacturing is scheduled for late 2024/early 2025.

We thank you again for your patience while we aim to provide the high standards you expect from an ADI World Class product.

I feel like I've won the lotto having all my reloads developed in 2208 , 2209 and black powder.

I just need the primer issue to disappear.

I find that a very interesting message. I am surprised about 2206H I thought it was more widly used than just comp shooters that and the fact that they have added Trailboss to that same group of what I thought were very common regulaly produced. Glad I have hoarder tendencies and stocked up on my regular use powders. However Since the debacle I have bought a gun that really needs trailboss. Trailboss is being missed around the world there is not much to replace it.

2206H is a versatile powder that can do 308 and 223.

I find it hard to believe that 2206H “only accounts for a small proportion of annual demand.”

I wont expect huge supply from ADI on those products. They'll trickle the market for the trailboss and APS to keep the demand and prices up.

The alternative? There is none. Grey imports are just as expensive and rare as let's face it, ADI are the monopoly kings. Until the government relaxes the powder import rules, we'll have to pay up and shut up. :drinks:

With regard to 950. The prices vary to buggery. One lot in QLD was $95 per 500gr, One in Sydney suburban was $120 and the other one found in a prominent Sydney gun store was $78. for 500gr.

Grab a receipt, name and shame them. :)
If they get supply, many just sell to their regulars or under the counter\ side for inflated prices.
