Projectile substitution

In my blackout I load quiet 125 speers with 4.5 grains of red dot. I use it for cats and foxes if they arrive on a dam before the pigs arrive. Then I switch to full blown proper ammo. In the quiet ammo , what would happen if I changed pills without adjusting the charge ? Does a 311 xtp raise pressure instead of the 125 speer 308 pill ? I think not. It’s already a pretty wimpy load … but I guess if my chambers on the tight side it could be jamming that 311 inside a case designed for a 308 proj .. rifles a howa mini

A different bullet will have an effect on the load, whether it's a measurable effect you can only discover by testing it. If your reduced load is subsonic then it's possible the fatter bullet might bump pressure up enough to make them go sonic, again you'd have to try it.

The XTP's are .312" (for .32ACP) so load one and see if it chambers first. It's also possible you might want to get a .310" or .311" expander but give it a good chamfer and try it first. The .312" bullets are also lighter than 125gn (60gn, 85gn and 100gn from memory) so would certainly go sonic on the same charge as a 125gn bullet.

I should actually take my press and gear on my Xmas hunt so I can load and test in the field .. the bigger expander button is a good idea. I’ll make a couple one night before Xmas.
