Nosler 105 gr custom competition for 243.

Post by Silver87 » 03 Jun 2014, 2:30 pm

G'day, wanting to know if anyone has had luck with these out to about 600m for target work?

I've got a good load for my Remington VLS using 95 gr Sierra match kings and 105 gr A-max's but would like more options when I can't get hold of those.

Provided I can actually get hold of the Nosler CC's they are well priced and come in boxes of 250 so keen to know what people think.

Cheers.

I can't say for the .243 105gr specifically.

On the Custom Comps in general though... I was shooting 155gr CC's for a while in my .308 out to 500m.

They were one of the most accurate bullets of the dozen I tried in that rifle. A shooting mate had similar performance with his .308 and load testing.

I would definitely say they are worth trying.

I've been lucky and managed to source some Hornady and Sierra projectiles but next pay day I'll order a box of the Nosler's. My local has them in stock $95 for a box of 250 so I reckon I'll give them a go.

Thanks for the replies.

Just be aware that Nosler say you need 1:8 twist for these.

I was looking at giving a box a go in my Tikka Varmint but it only has 1:10 twist :(

They're good bullets though. I got onto them because a mate was shooting the 69gr ones in his .223.

He's still newish to benchrest and only doing 200m - 300m at this point, not 600m, but he's getting clover leaf groups at 200m and he's still learning.

I don't use them any more because it's for hunting, but the 30 cal ones were the most accurate round I've tried in my Ruger Scout. :)

I was just about to say...

There all need pretty fast twist the CC.

What rifle are you shooting, Silver?

It's a 1:9 twist, I'm getting 3/4 MOA out of the 105 amax's so far with out testing different seating depths. Looking at the custom comps they appear to have a fairly aggressive secant ogive so I'd have to seat them long to minimise jump, well over 2.800" coal which I'd rather avoid.

Ideally Id like to find a good 80-95gr projectile that is in steady supply but 6mm seems to be very thin on the ground.

It's not uncommon to need to seat them above the 'standard' length for an ideal fit (within reason and safely still of course). For all calibres.

Do you not want to go over 2.8" for a specific reason? Magazine length limit etc.?

Or just keeping it to spec?
