Many thanks, what volume book is that from? I thought his latest book would have more ADI powders. 3031 has always been the best powder for my rifle but can't get it here anymore

First edition, 1980 I think. I don't have any of his later editions.
H4198 is AR2207,
H4895 is AR2206H.

I really don't think you need load data. The Hi-Power is slightly bigger than the .223 so just use .223 data. The biggest issue is the over-size bullets, the simplest way around that is casting your own bullets.

Do you want load data or background about reloading techniques?
I like Naramore and Lee's Modern Reloading, I keep them on my Mediafire - 33Mb and 180Mb.

It's a 1912 cartridge that went away many years ago, I'd be surprised if many modern manuals include data for it. Very few bullet manufacturers even make bullets for it now.

The pressure issues would arise using 223 data for a bolt action rifle when the loads I need are for a Savage 99 made in 1927. Harvey published loads in all his manuals and updated them right through to last number 8 I think.

Bladracer ive been loading the cartridge for 50 years but have always used IMR 3031 and have finally ran out, I am working with RL-7 at the moment but was interested in the options Harvey would have printed

The Hi Power case has a little more capacity than the .223 so pressures would be lower, by a good margin. I would expect a maximum .223 load to be roughly on-par with a starting load in the Hi Power.
I can't comment on the manuals as I don't have them.

You are loading a long-dead cartridge so just work up your own load data with whichever powders and bullets you have to play with, personally, I'd start with AR2206H (H4895) or AR2208 (Varget).

Reloader7 is a pretty fast rifle powder. I'm sure you can make decent loads using it but I would prefer a little slower, AR2206H or AR2208. BM2 or BM8208 would be very close to the same burn rate as IMR3031, but still on the fast side. I just went back through all the old Alliant manuals I can find (back to 1987) and I can't find any listing for the Hi Power. You could write to Alliant and ask them for data though.

Good stuff, I threw the post up on a face book forum also and got that load from his last book its close to the Hornady book from memory for RL 7. One of those times I wish I hadn't given away all my old loading books i'm sure Reloading Simplified had a good few loads in also

Another version taken from his 1993 book. The original book from 1980 was "Reloading for Rifle and Handgun" He printed a new book in 1993 "Nick Harvey's Practical Reloading Manual"

Many thanks I wonder if one could substitute 2206H for 2206 as a straight swap? ive still got a bit of RL-7 left so will sort something out. Its really only for shooting paper now anyway maybe the odd fox around the farm

AR2206H is my favourite rifle powder, there's not much that it won't work in, and very versatile, you can use it to shoot 1000fps or 4000fps.
