Sorting same calibre projectiles different weight/length

Post by rossfrb » 16 Nov 2025, 6:15 pm

Think I already know the answer, but hoping someone comes up with a genius solution my simple brain couldn't think of..
I ordered some 6.5mm 140 and 120 HP gr projectiles from a dealer for delivery by mail.
The projies duly arrived in the mail and when I open the padded mail bag I find that the plastic bags the projies were sealed in (in lots of 100) have all split and now I have a plastic mail bag with three hundred 140gr HP projies and two hundred 120gr HP projies all nicely mixed together.
The two types are of slightly different length so I could get a ruler and mark where the 140 and 120 grainers sit and manually sort 500 projectiles.
Or has someone got a better solution (please)?
cheers

Grab a beer or drink of choice
Sit down
Measure or weigh projectiles
Curse quietly at supplier and AusPost

But in all seriousness, you could grab multiples of say 10 and if they are all 140gr it should be 1400gr if you weight them and 1200gr if all 120gr but when you get a discrepancy you are gonna have to check every single one in the 10 etc. probably just easier to just weigh or measure each one

Either use a scale or a caliper and put on a podcast or audiobook.

I can't recall which they were now but possibly 162gn ELDM's and ELDX's - I dropped several boxes of each on the floor (cupboard shelf collapsed). There were other bullets as well but they were easy to pick out of the mess. These two are very, very similar. A large portion of that mess still resides in a mixed box and I just pluck out the bullets I'm looking for as I need them. Be a good job for the grandkids to sort for me next time they come :-)
